Effective communication derives from a translation which is accurate, faithful to the original (source) text, is transferred with the same intent and function, is culturally appropriate, captures the tone and style of the source text and is timely. Our attention to all these details and use of our Track will make your communication effective. It will help you to succeed in business with China and reach out to Chinese people.

Chin Communications track of effective communication

Underpinning all of our work are the following important keys to success:

  • Technology

Utilising the most effective systems to aid in the translation, memory (glossaries) and back ups; competence in client software requirements.

  • Project Management

Depending on the scale of the project - a one-page document or a lengthy report, a series of related documents, or on-going work, it is vital to ensure consistency in terminology and style – our management of the project aligns these and ensures a top quality result.

  • Consultation

A consultative approach is adopted with on-going client liaison, raising queries and suggestions about the text, advising on preparation, sourcing previous translations, terminology used and explanations. A good translation invariably requires client input and elaboration.

  • Experience

Over 20 years of Chinese translation work, we have met most situations and solved most problems before. What might seem an insurmountable obstacle to you is something we have, almost certainly, overcome before. We have accumulated vast resources – online, electronic and physical libraries; glossaries and databases; work files and reference material; with such developed systems and comprehensive resources, we are equipped to tackle your project now.

Our Track To Effective Communication is underpinned by the above key principles and follows this track:

  1. Source Text

These are your words (spoken or written) - here we will focus on the written translation process. The words should be complete, error free, punctuated and pun-free, written with your audience in mind. We can guide you. The words, ideally, are conveyed electronically to us, and we follow our Track to Effective Communication.

  2. Analyse

We read and review the text, discuss with you the audience and purpose, identify any issues requiring solutions appropriate to cultural, situation or societal context, agree on a timeline, quotation and then proceed along our Track.

  3. Strategy

We work out an appropriate methodology considering different purposes, different media, linguistic issues, technology requirements, usage, audience, etc. A strategy to meet all of your objectives is developed and to ensure that the translated document communicates effectively with the intended readership.

  4. Research

In preparing for the translation (or interpreting) assignment, we identify key concepts and terms, stakeholders and language interface. We undertake the necessary research and talk with you about your desired outcomes.

  5. Translate

Using a range of translation techniques and resources to produce a word processed Chinese translation, preserving the function & meaning of the source text and one that is culturally appropriate.

The translator discovers the meaning behind the forms in the source language and  produces the same meaning in the target language - using the forms and structures of the target language. Consequently, what is changed is the form and the code and what remains unchanged is the meaning and the message. (Larson, 1984)

  6. Check and Improve

Reviewing and editing the translation ensuring it fits the purpose. All or our work is reviewed and edited in house. We can also arrange a second qualified translator to independently produce a check of the translation and a report on findings from which the final draft is produced.

  7. Typeset and Format

For work to be published, placed on the web or in a special format, we prepare the finalized translation into the format required, proofread, save and back up all files.

  8. Final Product

You, our client, receive the final product in the agreed format and can now be confident effectively communicating your message. We follow up with you to ensure you receive everything, complete and ready to use.
