Chin Runner Up in Melbourne Awards 2017

Chin Communications this year is celebrating 25 years of work supporting Australia’s engagement with China. At a Gala Awards Ceremony at the Town Hall on 18 November 2017, Chin was the Runner Up in the Melbourne Awards 2017 Contribution to Multiculturalism by a Corporation Award.

These prestigious awards acknowledge important contributions organisations make to Melbourne in areas like environment, multiculturalism and community and include Melburnian of the Year – presented to Susan Alberti AC, fund raiser and football devotee.

The Winner, the Bastille Day French Festival, has something in common with Chin – through  making another culture accessible and vibrant – language is an important component.

Chin Communications in receiving the acknowledgement, highlighted many projects which have benefitted Melbourne:

Work for the City of Melbourne with its 35 year+ relationship with Sister City Tianjin in China which has delivered many projects to Victorian businesses and resulted in exchanges and deals at all levels from football to art to biotechnology;

The MSO and the Australian Ballet tours to China and performances like the MSO Chinese New Year Concert – a true exchange of cultures;

Shrine of Remembrance telling important stories about our history in Chinese Language;

Free Trade Agreement and related meetings and visits bringing economic benefits to all of us;

Victoria’s Skilled Migration Program – Live in Victoria attracting skilled migrants to our state.

Melbourne’s institutions and venues are all rolling out the welcome carpet to international visitors and students and it’s not only about Chinese for us, Chin works in up to 50 languages whether Somali or Arabic, Vietnamese or Spanish, or creating iconic brands for wines, food, tourism sites, the arts, and Melbourne properties.

It’s about telling stories of indigenous art and Melbourne’s biotech precinct, dairy cows and hay exports, history, language and culture.

It’s about getting the language and culture right to succeed on the international stage.

Chin Communications has operated in the Melbourne CBD since 1992 and is based in Queen Street. This year founders Kate Ritchie and Charles Qin OAM, received Lord Mayor Commendations for 25 years of operation and Chin also won the International Award in the Business 3000+ Awards in May 2017.

The acknowledgement is a testament to the entire Chin Team who work incredibly hard and are highly skilled in the important work of translating and interpreting.
