Background
Charles Qin co-founded Chin Communications in 1992. As Managing Director & Chief Interpreter, Charles is responsible for driving the company’s growth while also focusing on developing the professional language skills of all team members.
Charles is the only Australian/Chinese member of the prestigious AIIC (International Association of Conference Interpreters), is Adjunct Industry Fellow at Monash University, and a visiting Professor at the Tianjin Foreign Studies University, while also being a board member of the Australia China Business Council Victoria Division (ACBC – Victoria). He is also a founding member of the Chinese Interpreters & Translators Association of Australia (CITAA) and has been its president since 2014. He was awarded the Order of Australia Medal in 2016 for his contribution to international relations, particularly through interpreting and translation. Charles is one of the the most sought-after English-Chinese conference interpreters in Australia.
He still spends a great deal of his time translating and interpreting and has worked in exciting places and for high-profile organisations, events and individuals around the world, including for the United Nations, the Olympic Games, APEC meetings, as well as for presidents and prime ministers.
With a passion for language, Charles has a growing following on China’s social media platform where he often writes about translations and linguistics. He is seen about town in his suit and tie on the trusty treadly – that way, Charles is never late for a meeting or interpreting job.
