According to research by KONG Deyong, President of the Confucius Family Tree Society, there are close to four million descendants of Confucius scattered in mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and overseas. Three million remain in the mainland - many in Qufu - Confucius' birthplace. Confucius is the English name given to this most famous of Chinese teachers - his Chinese surname is Kong.
