Thirty Years of Excellence – Australia’s Most Awarded Translators and Interpreters Your Secret Weapon for Chinese Communication

Translators and interpreters are not the best at self-promotion as we are often hidden behind the scenes. Without us though trade would grind to a halt, diplomacy would falter, and communities would be at risk as was on show during Covid, and non-English speakers would be at a disadvantage in the court room.

Chin Communications, is rare in the field of translation employing an in-house team of Chinese translators and interpreters, where our competitors use contractors here and offshore.  Our investment in talent has paid off and we pay tribute to our team here. They have won more awards than any other organisation in this field and that is something worth celebrating! For thirty years our head office has been in Melbourne’s CBD. Our contribution to the City of Melbourne has been underlined with two Lord Mayor Commendations. And in 2005 our MD, Charles Qin, received the Interpreting industry’s ‘High Commendation’ for his work as the Mandarin Interpreter for the inaugural visit of Chinese President Hu Jintao to Australia.

CONGRATULATIONS TO CHIN COMMUNICATIONS ON ITS 30TH ANNIVERSARY

Charles Qin of Chin Communications has been a wonderful facilitator of links between Australia and China. I recall numerous occasions on which he has interpreted conversations between me and Chinese leaders. I especially recall several meetings with the former President Hu Jintao. Charles always impressed as a person of high competence and complete professionalism. I wish him good fortune in his future endeavours.

John Howard, former Prime Minister of Australia, 4 March 2022

In 2013 the Chin team was winner of the National Excellence in Interpreting Award for its language work on the Dairy Australia Scholarship program. Chin has worked on this important engagement for two decades, providing wonderful, specialised Mandarin Interpreting support to this key program for Australian agriculture and dairy exports.

In 2018, the Chin Team took home this Excellence Award again, this time for the Australia New Zealand School of Government (ANZSOG) program and its team of Mandarin interpreters supporting a high level program with simultaneous interpreting and translation support for 8 years.

In the meantime, we picked up an Honourable Mention in the International category of the Melbourne3000+ Awards in 2016, going one better in 2017 as Winner in the Category. The Melbourne Awards for the Multicultural Corporation Award had the Chin team as Runner up in 2017 and Winner in 2018 reflecting not just our Mandarin Interpreting work, but, in fact, our ongoing delivery of services in up to 50 languages. Kate and Charles proudly accepted this acknowledgement in front of 300 guests at the Melbourne Town Hall.

If that wasn’t enough, Managing Director Charles Qin received an Order of Australia Medal in 2016 for his services through translating and interpreting to international relations and was made a Monash Fellow in 2018, celebrating individuals who have made a sustained and significant contribution to transform their communities for the better – capping off a decade.
